This past Saturday, the stakes weren’t money — they were connection and conversation. Teens from Woodinville High School shuffled into Merrill Gardens in Kirkland to host an afternoon of card tricks, and Texas Hold ’Em lessons for some of our sharpest senior players.
The room was filled with:
- Laughter and lighthearted competition
- Poker faces and unexpected wins
- Shared stories and new friendships across generations
“Don’t underestimate us,” one resident joked, stacking chips after a winning hand. “We’ve been bluffing longer than you’ve been alive!”
Some of the teens arrived confident, only to realize they were facing card players with decades of experience. Others picked up the game quickly and brought their own energy to the table. Everyone walked away with a little more than they came with — even if it wasn’t chips.
