Yes, and they are our employees. Every caregiver is on our W-2 payroll rather than working as an independent contractor, which means we carry the payroll taxes, workers’ compensation, and liability coverage instead of leaving that with your family.

That is what respite care is for, and it is one of the most common reasons families use home care. It is also the most under-asked-for.

A caregiver stays with your parent while a spouse or adult child works, runs errands, goes to their own appointments, travels, or just sleeps through the night. It can be occasional or a standing part of the weekly schedule.

Can caregivers help with medications?

Caregivers give medication reminders and anything else permitted under the client’s care plan and Washington State home care rules.

They do not prescribe, change, or make decisions about medications. If a client needs a task that requires nurse delegation, we can work with a delegating nurse to train and certify a caregiver to perform that task.

Can veterans use VA benefits for Acti-Kare home care?

We are an approved provider for VA-authorized home care. Eligible veterans may receive authorized non-medical home care through the VA.

Can you help after a hospital or rehabilitation stay?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons families first call. If your parent is coming home from Swedish Redmond, Overlake Medical Center, or EvergreenHealth in Kirkland, we can be there the day they get back. The first two weeks home are when things tend to go wrong.

We help with personal care, dressing, meals, moving around the house safely, household tasks, errands, and rides to follow-up appointments, and with rebuilding a routine that works. Recovery care is often temporary, and there is no obligation to continue once your parent is steady.

Matching is more than finding someone available. We look at care needs and required skills, but also schedule, location, personality, communication style, whether there is a dog, and whether anyone smokes.

We aim for stable schedules and limit unnecessary changes. How close we get depends on the weekly hours and on normal things like vacation and illness, and a larger schedule needs more than one caregiver by definition. What we are building is a small, consistent team your mom gets comfortable with. If a caregiver is not the right fit, tell us and we will fix it.
