Some lives are defined by titles—Veteran, Builder, Entrepreneur, Dancer—but for Malcolm, those are just chapters in a story larger than the sum of its parts.
Built to Learn, Built to Lead
Malcolm joined the Navy when he was just 17 years old. Three years, two months, and 26 days of service shaped his discipline and sparked his lifelong love for learning. After the military, he didn’t follow one straight path—he forged his own. A true man of many trades, Malcolm became a woodworker, carpenter, and general contractor. He never let inexperience hold him back. In fact, he shared a story about building a staircase from scratch. Without prior experience, he turned to the library, reached out to friends in the field, and taught himself the craft. The result? A perfect fit—both the stairs and the spirit behind them.
Eventually, Malcolm built more than just structures—he built a business. With seven cars, three trucks, and a team of seven employees, his company thrived. He wasn’t afraid to take on complex projects or lead others into the unknown. He believed in learning as you go, and he showed others that with curiosity and commitment, anything is possible.
New Yorker at Heart, Family Man in the West
For Malcolm, one source of joy has always been dancing. He’s been dancing since he was 8 years old—rushing home after school for dinner, then heading back for dance lessons. Ballroom has always been his favorite. In 2019, he began hosting community dances, complete with DJs and good vibes. Dancing became a celebration—not just of movement, but of life itself.
A Life Lived to Music
At 75, Malcolm met the love of his life on the dance floor. Fourteen years later, they’re still dancing together. When he talks about dancing, his face lights up:
“You get everything out of dancing that you need—rhythm, motion! The music is calming.”
“The best thing you can do for enjoyment is dancing.”
The Road Back
Now facing health challenges, Malcolm walks the halls of his apartment building every day to regain strength. His goal is clear and personal: to get back to the dance floor.
“When I get my legs back,” he says with a smile, “I will be dancing.”
Malcolm reminds us that resilience is a rhythm, joy is a choice, and community is everything. He’s a man who has lived with purpose, worked with passion, and moved through life with grace.
And above all else—he never stopped dancing.
