At Acti-Kare Home Care, we believe everyone deserves to feel confident and capable, no matter what challenges they face. That’s why we’re so inspired by Eddie, one of our cherished clients, who has found an incredible way to help people rediscover their independence – through the joy of fishing.

“When someone has confidence in themselves, they can do anything,” Eddie says, lighting up as he talks about his work. After being disabled in combat, Eddie understood firsthand how life’s challenges can shake your sense of independence. But instead of letting that define him, he continuously channels his energy into creating solutions. In 2012, he launched Freedom Adaptive Systems, designing fishing equipment that opens up new possibilities for everyone – whether they’re dealing with mobility challenges, PTSD, or recovery from a stroke.

His story caught the attention of KING 5 News, which featured his efforts to help fellow veterans rediscover their capabilities through fishing. It’s easy to see why – his equipment is designed to help anyone fish comfortably with one arm, using either their right or left hand.

“When I go fishing, I want to catch fish, not lose them because my equipment isn’t up to the job,” Eddie explains with a smile. That attention to detail has made waves far beyond our local community. Through collaborating with groups like Salmon for Soldiers and the VA, Eddie’s equipment has found its way into the hands of fishermen from Norway to Africa.

For Eddie and his wife, Janice, it’s never been about the money – he often gives equipment away to those who can’t afford it. His focus is simply on giving people back their sense of freedom and accomplishment. At Acti-Kare, we’re proud to support clients like Eddie, who embody our mission of empowering people to live independently and follow their passions.

For those caring for a loved one with disabilities, particularly our veterans who have given so much for our country, Freedom Adaptive Systems offers a pathway back to independence, confidence, and joy. Eddie’s story reminds us of what we see in so many of our clients: that following your passion can light the way for others.
